Choosy Families Make Their Own Peanut Butter!

Published by katjo8 at 4:09 pm under Recipes Edit This

Homemade Peanut ButterAnyone else suffering from peanut paranoia?  We in our household are definitely tending toward this at least a little bit.  Fortunately, we do not eat any prepared foods that contain peanut butter products, so we have not been affected by recalls, but nevertheless…some of the things I have learned about the way peanuts are processed and the way these plants are inspected have made me seriously reconsider using commercially prepared peanut butter at all.

With this in mind, I set about learning how to make my own!  Here is what I found and we had a blast doing this.

  •  Food Processor
  • Large Spoon
  • Clean Jar
  • 1/2 cup Peanut Oil
  • 2 cups Roasted Peanuts
  • Salt (to taste)

Pour 1/4 cup oil into the food processor and add the peanuts.  Chop coarsely at first, but gradually continue to chop the nuts more and more finely.  Add additional oil gradually until a smooth blend is achieved.  Add salt to taste.  Spoon into the jar and slap on a label.

Note:  The degree of smoothness will depend on how effective your food processor is.  We like our peanut butter a little chunky, so we did not put our food processor to the test too much.
